Limerick Lane Remodel

We recently took a few scouting photos of a project we completed last summer. It is always a great pleasure to go back to see how the families are living in the space that we took great care in planning and executing with them.

This family is fantastic. Mom, dad and 3 grown boys (one still home in high school) needed an update. They have lived in the home for over 12 years and wanted to not only make it more
visually appealing but also more functional.

In considering the design elements of the space, it was agreed that the entire 1st floor needed to be overhauled and flow more from space to space. As many families today can relate, the formal living and dining rooms were simply there and not used. It was also important to make the space comfortable for when all 5 members were home as well as planning for when it will be just the 2 of them or for resale if they decided to move.

The wall between the dining room and kitchen was removed to allow for an open concept as well as new windows to let in more light. The "eat-in" area was used for a unique pennisula and bar. Wood floors were continued from the kitchen into the dining and living areas to maintain flow from one space to another.

In addition to the kitchen area, the family room plays a major role in their day to day life. See how we added function and appeal to the fireplace wall. (which also is the "mudroom" as the door from the garage is directly into this space)

Today, the family eats every meal at the dining room table and find it to be a great entertaining
space. "We have had parties and people are at the table, the bar area, in the family room as well as mingling in the middle and we all feel together" (Val, homeowner). The new color scheme and material selections are warmer, more inviting and have a few great details with unique materials to give it subtle interest and surprise. As a designer, it is always great to look at the before and afters to see the visual change. However, it is most rewarding to see how my work can change the way people live and relate to each other at home.

After all, what good is a house if it is not a home?
